Equinix Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX) is making a major expansion to Plano’s Legacy Business Park with a lease for 6 megawatts of electricity in a massive data center in West Plano, with an option to build a new data center on an adjacent tract of land.
The California-based global data center operator has obtained rights to build a customized data center of 20 to 25 megawatts on the adjacent 16-acre site owned by T5 Data Centers. That output could power 10 developments the size of the 950-acre Phillips Creek Ranch master-planned community underway in Frisco.
At full build-out, a facility with that much power could cost the company upwards of $500 million.
